What’s good for a cough?
My little girl came home last week with the peaky look of an oncoming bug. That hollow pale demeanor is instantly recognizable. She started off complaining of a bad belly which we solved with a few punnets of blueberries (seemed like she needed a proper poop) and a hot water bottle. The next day progressed to sneezes and runny nose which we attacked with manuka honey, limited dairy intake and plenty of raw carrots, broccoli and hummus. Although she was a bit tired and rundown she seemed to fighting it off. Then came the cough. Chesty and frequent. Out came my essential oils, steamers and the goose grease which I rubbed relentlessly onto her wee chest. I felt we were winning but it was slow progress. The cough was proving a tough nut to crack. She was looking better although still dark around the eyes ( lack of a good night sleep,’cause I had them too) but the cough, well I was on the verge of taking her to the the doctors. I like to rely on my gut feeling for most things but doubt can sometimes creep in when it comes to illness and kids. One last thing to try before bundling her off to sit in an overcrowded sick room. My bottle of Collidial Silver arrived on Wednesday and I gave my girl her first dose. Active silver is known to have natural antiseptic and antimicrobial properties, plus it’s a tasteless spray making administering easy. Slight improvement and we both slept through the night. I continued with the recommended course and by Sunday she said she felt able to go to school. I knew she was getting better ’cause she wanted to start doing puzzles with me again! Her cough is gone and again I managed to avoid antibiotics. I would of course given them to her if she needed them but I’m trying to support her immune system through wholesome foods and plenty of fruits and vegetables to keep her body strong. I’ll keep giving her the silver spray as a preventive measure as there are lots more bugs to fend off !
